Who cares. I'm throwing caution to the wind and singlehandedly destroying the English language by my careless usage! MUWAHAHAHAHAHA!!
*puts down the crack pipe*
Like Pete, my circumstances have changed drastically from where I was last year. Last year, I didn't have time to do Nano. This year, I have all the same stuff going on I had last year, plus a full time job. So what do I do?
I decide to Nano.
What the hell was I thinking?!
Actually, I was thinking quite a bit. Writing has, understandably, fallen by the wayside. I have all these ideas, and no time to do anything with them. So I figure that now is as good a time as any to "force" myself into writing something. I'm excited about my story, and I think it'll pan out very well. I've stolen the title from another WIP I had a brief idea for. Hey, it was my title, I'll reassign it if I want to. So there. Besides, I'm in love with the title. (But not so much that I wouldn't change it for a big fat advance. LOL) I'm really excited to get to work on Jericho Road. So excited that I've even been making notes here and there. I wouldn't go so far as to say I've been working on an... outline... *shudder* but I'm firming up some ideas.
I'm not sure I'll get anywhere near 50,000 words, but even if I only get to 10K, that's a damn good start, and it's a lot more than I'll have if I don't get my butt in the chair and do it, right? At this point, I'm hoping to reach the 50,000, but I promised myself I wouldn't get disappointed if I didn't make it. There's a shitload going on in my life, and things just don't work out the way I want them to sometimes. Lots of times.... Okay, most times.
So I will try my best, but I'm not beating myself up if I don't hit the target. Anyway. I'm carrieinpa over at the Nano website if you want to look me up!
Is "Nano" a Verb? And Is "Nanoing" a Word At All?

I'd look you up on the NaNo web-site, except that I need to set aside, like, thirteen years to load anything. It's about as fast as tree sap in the winter...
I'm looking forward to this NaNo, partially because it's the first time I've ever done it, mostly because all my friends are evidently doing it.
So YOU can blog about it, and *I* can blog about it, and LORI can blog about it, and KRISTINE can blog about it....which mostly means you'll get lots of blogs every week going "It's crap. It's all crap. I'm such a hack."
Yeah, that is one slow site over there. I tried to look at it a few months ago (following a link from AW) and didn't wait for it to load.
Lori has never said she's NaNoing. All Lori did was encourage Pete and Kristine to race. I'm not going to say I'm not going to write in November, because I will. Trust me. I will. I'm coming into physical contact with other writers the first weekend of November who will sit me in a corner and not let me out each day until after I've done 1K, but, honestly, with my schedule, about 5-6K a week is all I'm going to be able to manage.
But, Carrie, if Pete and Kristine don't mind, I'll include you in the little race they have going on. If you're able to write more than either one of them, I'll send you the bag of tea I've anted up for the month.
I didn't say you were NaNoing, I just thought you were a part of this weirdo race thing.
I have no idea what this weirdo race thing is. Someone needs to explain what is happening in small words for this here dumb writer, plz, kthxbai.
Thanks, Lori, but why would I want a bag of tea that's full of ants? I mean, I appreciate that you've been painstakingly hand-selecting the little critters to "ant it up" but... that's just kind of weird.
:oD
The site did seem better last evening. I navigated through something like FOUR pages! Hooray!
I linked to it from The Commune last night and had no problem pulling it up and I was on the dial-up connection, not the snazzy, faster-than-light connection that the university has.
But, Carrie, they are even a large variety of ants, including the ever elusive Thief Ants.
Well the tea I have in mind contains no ants - but there's always room for more participants in what Pete feels will be his Great Tea Collection month.
Yeah, he'll probably beat the pants of all of us combined, but it'll be fun watching him do it ! I can, at least, write faster than the Nano page can load.
I'll tell you what. If Carrie definitively commits to the race, then so will I. The two of us can vie for last place.
*glee*
You're the problem here, Kristine. I know how fast Lori writes usually, and the same with Carrie. I know what speed I'll write at. I don't know about YOU. Which is the nerve wracking bit here. :)
Except, Pete, you do have the son now, which is not something you had before and last time we raced, I stalled on a particular scene.
My problem is I probably only have 30,000-35,0000 words to write in the current project.
Guess you'd better start the next project AFTER that one, eh? :)
Yeah, I do have a son. This is true. Fortunatly, if I give him a little NyQuil every morning in his formula, it should guarantee me a lot of hours of writing time.
(Oh hush. Of course I'm kidding.)
(DayQuil would work too)
Rum works well, or so my Grandma always said :D
Ooh, I love being the dark horse!
Dark kitty, in this instance. :)
And I have no rum. I have a sealed bottle of wine which we were given at out wedding and never drank, because we really don't drink fermented things often.
(you gals are going to kill me in this competition...)
Yes. Especially if you win.
Do I get bonus points if I reach The End before the end of the month?
Guess you'd better start the next project AFTER that one, eh? :)
Pete, you do realize that this could be interpreted as a recommendation to abandon Child of Fate, don't you?
Does anyone else get bonus points for reaching "the end" before the end of the month?
(The odds of me managing it are pretty slim)
And you don't abandon it, silly, you finish it and THEN start the next one. Everybody who's anybody knows THAT.
But that's not what you said! (At least in my interpretation.)
Actually, since you're competing in this race too, I should be encouraging you to randomly do some scattershot work across two novels, and then barrage you with games like the above Hamlet game, until you get nothing done. Yes. Yesss...
Ooh, Pete's gonna play dirty :D
Of course he is. He's Pete. But don't worry, it's easy to psych him out, which is why he tries to psych others out.
*rubs hands together in gleeful anticipation*
I am IMPOSSIBLE to psyche out. I am focused. I am, like, King Focused. I am the most focused focus that ever focused on the planet focus. I'm bringing focusback. I'm -- wow! Pennies!
Carrie... Come out and puh-lay
I wanna fight! Fight cool!
*wanders off humming The Warriors*
I gave the link to the Hamlet game to That Barb Person. She's back to muttering about deadlines and large angry rottweilers.
She's probably just grumpy because she failed at the game. When it comes to Hamlet Text Adventures, Barb is "Teh Fail"
Sure, I'll race. Why not. :oD
Pete is frighteningly easy to psyche out. Watch this...
Hey, Pete! Look over there! Boobs!!!
*jots down note: post about boobs and wet t-shirt contests during Nano. Provide photos.*
Glad you're onboard the Great Ship Gotta'Tea, Carrie !
Woohoo! We're posting what prizes we're offering up over at The Commune, Carrie. Secret weapons available to us are being posted over at My Midnight Muse.
*watches the writers run around like ants under a magnifying glass on a sunny day*
So... does that leave only RT not Nanoing?
Hee hee. This is going to be a fun November.
